The Everything Room

Sometimes you need more rooms than you have in your home. While it would be great to have a separate guest room, pet room, office and gym, the fact is that in your house ONE room has to do the job of several rooms. Here are some tips to make your “everything room” look great while meeting all your needs.

Wall Décor Because your room will serve so many functions, you’ll need to keep the décor on the neutral side. The best option is metal wall art and wall mirrors. These work for every function of your room. This type of décor won’t be distracting no matter which purpose your room is serving at any given time. Mirrors are especially useful when the room is serving as a gym or guest room.

1. Multipurpose If the room is a multipurpose room then it only makes sense to try and find items that also serve a dual purpose. Instead of a regular bed, consider a futon or daybed. While it will work great when using the room as a guest room, the futon or daybed can also serve as extra seating when using the room as a gym or office. As a bonus, your pets will have an extra spot to snooze when they are in the room, too. If you put wheels on a small table, it can act as a nightstand for overnight guests, or it can easily be wheeled next to the treadmill for a place to set a drink. Also, you should consider items that are easily moved or that fold up when not in use. Many treadmills can be folded and either stored under the bed or up against a wall when not in use. Most dog crates can be folded flat when not in use. By selecting items that serve more than one purpose, or that can be easily stored, you will help your room to remain uncluttered.

2. Keep it Ready To keep the space functional, it’s important that you keep this room clutter free. When you’re done with the treadmill, take the time to fold it away. Fluff the pillows on the daybed and clean the wall mirrors on a regular basis. By keeping this room ready to go, it will always be ready for you to use it in whatever way you need.

Just because you don’t have a dedicated room to meet all your needs doesn’t mean that you don’t have space for everything. You can only do one activity at a time. There is nothing wrong with using one room for several purposes. By selecting the best items for the room, and taking the time to keep it clean and ready to go, you’ll have room for everything, even though you don’t have a room for everything!
