More and more people are working at home these days, and many homeowners are finding new ways to use traditional spaces. While a home office is becoming increasingly common in today's homes, finding a meeting space is sometimes a challenge. Since a home office can be quite functional in a relatively small space, many people do not have a good place to hold a business meeting in their office. One easy to rectify this situation is to convert the dining table to a conference table. By making this change, business meetings can be comfortable, and if the dining room is formal and seldom used, using it as a conference room puts the room back in service by giving it a dual function in the home. The Table is Key A dining table makes a very easy and natural transition into a conference table. So with the primary pieces of furniture, namely the table and chairs, already in place, making the transition from dining room to conference room is really quite simple. If the dining table has a removable leaf, then the table can accommodate large or small meetings. For a wooden tabletop, it is best to protect the surface from being marred by someone writing with a pen. Have a piece of glass or plexiglass cut to fit the surface, or add a table pad to the surface for protection. Blending Conference Function With a few, simple additions to the dining room, it can function as an even better conference room. Of course the size of the table and the size of the dining room will determine how many additional pieces of furniture can be included in the room without making it feel too cramped. Adding a roll top desk to the dining room can function as a beautiful accent piece as well as neatly housing all work related materials. Blend the desk into the dining room decor by arranging some crockery or a colorful vase of flowers on its top. When it is time for a meeting, simply roll the top of the desk open, and it is ready to use. Then just as easily, roll the top down, and business items are hidden. The drawers of the desk can store business materials or tablecloths depending on where the greatest need lies. So adding this type of furniture to the dining room is a great way to keep supplies close by and hidden. Other Conference Considerations Generally when speaking of a conference room, business applications immediately come to mind, but there are other times when a large, meeting table can come in handy. It is the perfect place for a family meeting, and it also works well for a club meeting. However, even though the dining room makes the perfect conference or meeting room, remember that it still works quite well as a place to enjoy a meal with the family. Keep the room looking stylish for either purpose with beautiful wall art, such as a metal wall grille, colorful painting or elegant door topper. |
