Brightening up the Foyer to Welcome Guests

Brightening up the Foyer to Welcome Guests

One element that makes a foyer feel warm and welcoming is glowing lighting, and it is one of the simplest and most affordable ways to liven up the feeling of a foyer. Quite often the light fixtures do not need to be replaced, and just updating a lampshade or swapping out a light bulb can make a big difference in the appearance of the foyer. However, changing the light fixtures is a really quick way to freshen up the look of the foyer too, especially when updating the look of an older home.

Consider the Ceiling

Most foyers have a light in the ceiling, and all too often it just blends into the background. Since the foyer gives a visitor a taste of what is to come as they enter a home, just changing the light fixture for a new one can have a huge impact on the appearance of the space. Depending on the size of the foyer and the height of the ceiling, there are many different styles of light fixtures from which to choose. Both chandeliers and pendant lights are very popular choices; because they are elegant, and they are designed in many different styles. Finding one to fit a foyer's style is generally not too difficult. When looking for a chandelier or pendant light for the foyer, make sure that the light fixture is the proper scale for the space. Pendant lights tend to have a simpler lines than chandeliers, so consider which style best suits the area. In a large foyer, make sure that the lighting fixture is large enough to have impact; and in a smaller foyer, make sure that the lighting fixture is not so large that it overwhelms the space.

Still More Styles

While pendant lights and chandeliers are the most popular options for a foyer's lighting, they are certainly not the only choice. There are many light fixtures that are simple shades or glass globes, and they look quite elegant in the foyer. Look for a fixture that has a cut glass globe to add a little more elegance to a space, and even a frosted glass cover can add a little extra sparkle to the foyer. Other options, like art glass, stained glass and etched glass are also wonderful options for adding a special lighting touch to the foyer.

When the Ceiling is Dark

Even though it is common to have a ceiling light in the foyer, not all entryways are fitted with a ceiling fixture. In these instances, the homeowner can certainly have one installed, or they can simply light the foyer with freestanding lamps. Consider a lovely table lamp sitting on the foyer table to add a warm glow to the area and add interest to the décor as it helps to create a warm and welcoming environment for any visitor crossing the home's threshold. Or choose electric or candles wall sconces to add illumination and also draw out the details in elaborate metal wall hangings.

Now that the foyer looks just right, it’s time to brighten up the kitchen with colorful kitchen wall hangings from your favorite metal decor store.
